Reading the small print it is very important especially when it comes with AMEX / BA. unfortunately for me, I have for over a year now been under the illusion that one can book future travel before voucher expires. As pointed out here and in the small print You MUST commence the actual travel before expiery of the voucher. This is very different from the Future Travel vouchers but as they are in fact refunds for actual money spent I appreciate thats different. If anyone knows of a trick to extend do let me know. Else Im just going to accept I lost out and also cancel my AMEX as I’d rather collect points on Virgin and not want to worry with too many cards.
What exactly are you asking here, whether the BAPP 241 voucher can be extended, or the FTV? Are you saying that you thought the 241 was book by, rather than fly by?
The FTVs have to be used prior to 30/9, so they are not “book by” either!
With the 241, it’s only the outbound which has to be flown by the expiry date, the return can be any time within the next 12 months. Don’t know if this helps.
Not sure it’s small print, per se. It has always been ‘book and fly out by’ rather than ‘book by’ on the 241 vouchers. Given that the vouchers have a 2 year life (and some over covid got extended to 5 years!) I don’t think BA feels it is being unreasonable.
My 2-4-1 voucher expires in a couple of days. I had planned a trip for 2 to use my avios and get the free companion for some reason I had it in my head that the voucher could be redeemed for any future flight. I tried with BA and AMEX and zero chance. The return leg can be after expiery bout the flying out must be before the day on the voucher. I was told to either find somewhere to go in the next few days or loose it. My voucher has 18 months validy from 25/10/2021 to 25/4/2023 (it is the Premium Amex which has 24 Months validy.)
On the plus side Barclaycard offers 50,000 points on their avios plus (£20 month fee) if one spends £3000 within 3 months or the Basic Avios Barclaycard (no fee) 10,000 points if one spends £1000 within 3 months. Offer applies until 30 may 2023. I applied for that so thats my 10k points consellation points 🙂 https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/avios
