I can see than price difference between club world and first class not as big as I imagined for LHR to Sydney. Im personally not bothered about the lounges in LHR, so will be basing my decision on the cabin experience. Anyone flown first class recently and has view on cabin differeces and experience? Eg, how much more space do you get, info systems etc. Im not much of a sleeper on planes, so not one for sleeping my way through majority of flight. I would be travelling with my partner, so assume centre seats are the ones to go for?

I imagine F to SYD would be a delight! Not so much the seat, especially if the J cabin is CS, though you do get more space, but the level of service you (should) get. Also F & B should be better quality and you can choose when to eat, which might help in re-setting your body clock to Oz time.

Having flown to SYD some years ago (not in F!), I would personally pick a window seat again as the views were incredible.

If it’s on the 787-9 then absolutely worth it as otherwise you’ll be in old Club World. 77W less of a difference vs Club Suite although a centre pair is much more sociable than a pair of Club Suites which really offer very limited interaction possibility if that’s something that matters to you

Lounges wise you’ll get Concorde room access at T5 and then you can go to the Qantas first class lounge at Changi. If you use the BA lounge there is also a small area reserved too

And the Qantas First lounge in Sydney. BA’s First is what one would expect from a decent business class eg Qatar, so if you want a business class experience on BA, fly First.

You don’t say how you are paying for the flights, cash or Avios and for the latter, whether using a 241. If no 241, QR Business or First will offer a vastly superior experience in every respect vs BA F. If you can’t sleep on board the BA timings are horrendous as you arrival at 5/6am (after two nights on board) whereas with QR you can take a morning flight from the UK and arrive Sydney early evening the next day. The Doha stopover, albeit earlier in the journey, is a much more civilised; you might even be ready to sleep by then!

If it has to be BA, don’t even think of Club whether old seats or new Club suites, go F.

Thanks for info/views. Much appreciated. For information. BA first is roughly 20% more expensive than BA Club World but still roughly 20% cheaper than QATAR business class for the dates I’m going. BA15 and BA16 which is showing Boeing 777 with 8 seats in first.

As you’re paying cash, might be worth exploring BA holidays pricing to get the double tier points.

I was lucky enough to fly first last month to the US and I can say hands down that’s the way to fly. Everything was exceptional from the first wing onwards. Go for it.
