Flying to Athens tomorrow morning but need to wait until this afternoon to do my Fit to Fly Lateral Flow test so that the test falls within the 24 hours of flight’s arrival (as required by Greece). Have had multiple reminder emails to upload covid docs (PLF, vacc & test certs) in order to be allowed to use online check-in but obviously can’t do this quite yet. Then got an email this morning saying online check-in is open, so for the heck of it I tried checking in, entirely expecting to be told “you must complete doc verification first”. Lo and behold boarding pass issued straight away!?
Happened to us on a flight from Vegas back in November too. However, we were stopped at the gate while boarding as the boarding pass scanned but something was wrong. Then the gate agent said “I was paging you earlier, luckily you haven’t lost your seat”. And then she only checked our passports… We were travelling with hand luggage only, so we didn’t go to check-in at all… Not sure what that was about, but I’m more conscious now…
Now done the document upload, although there was no “upload doc” button alongside the required PLF. Received near on instant confirmation that my docs had been verified with green ticks alongside vacc cert, test cert and PLF – even though I wasn’t able to send them my PLF!
All I can add is that this has happened to me too. I checked in online, but I uploaded the documents at the same time and didn’t have an issue at the airport on an HBO ticket. This certainly wasn’t the case a few months ago. I wonder if it’s intentional…
For some routes, it seems BA has removed the Upload Documents button AND is allowing online checkin, which is confusing given the blizzard of emails with dire warnings about the failure to submit documents. I can confirm ATH, OTP and IST from personal experience but it seems there are more examples as posted earlier.
I had the flipside of Jacob‘s experience in that I mentioned this to the guest service agent in the CCR at T5 and she treated me as if I was some kind of idiot “If it hasn’t asked you for documents then they’re not needed. Why are you asking me? Why would this be a problem?” etc. Then on the inbound journey I got stopped at the gate and asked: “Where have you been? Why haven’t you submitted any documents to anyone ? Don’t you know there’s a pandemic” etc. So you can’t win it seems…

Oh love that 😂… You’re right, there’s no right answer!
