Hi everyone, I had the BA Amex Premium, hit the 241 companion voucher, downgraded to the free Amex and got pro rata refund. I did this to use it for my honeymoon but I did it so quickly that actually it’s going to be a bit too early if I need to fly out before it expires (even with 2 years). If I use it earlier, and then want to get another 241 for my honeymoon, am I allowed to upgrade back up to the premium at the end of this card year (to get the 2 year 241 on premium rather than free)? I’d probably downgrade again after I hit it, if I were able! Thank you!
Amex currently allows this but that doesn’t mean they will always do so in the future as this route is a loophole that could be closed at any time. There are some reasons why that could be sooner rather than later. There is always the option of paying the annual fee as 90%+ of people do.
Amex is now blocking some people from changing their card status if they’ve done it before. Calling back can often get around this.
However, you may need to bite the bullet, fully cancel and reapply, losing ‘spend to date’ in the process.
