BA Amex Strategy

Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
Hello,
This might be a naive question. I have the BA Amex Premium Plus card, and almost at the spending limit to get my companion voucher (my deadline to reach that limit is October).
I had a mind to get the voucher, cancel the card (to stop paying the fees), and then sign up to the Barclays Avios Plus card to start building towards that (and restart the Amex in October or whenever I’ve hit the spending limit on the Barclays card, whichever is later).
Anything I’m missing? It seems instinctively the sensible thing to do (alternatively I could hover below the Amex spending limit until October and then tap myself over the threshold just to get a few more months before the voucher expires, although would mean paying the fees).
Thanks!
When you come to redeem the BA Amex voucher, the cash element of the fare must be paid with an Amex card. It doesn’t need to be the same card with which you earned the voucher (and in reality it doesn’t even need to be an Amex in your name.)
Apart from that you’re free to cancel the BA Amex, but note there’s no guarantee of being accepted again (particularly in the short term) if you hope to have the opportunity to earn another voucher.
