Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA bidding for upgrade

It may have been available for ages but I have only just noticed BA website featuring an article about bidding for upgrades. Has anyone had any experience of this and if so, how successful was it?

Interesting, and definitely new. A very BA like web page run by a third party, like some of the hotel chain upgrade offers https://upgrade.plusgrade.com/offer/BritishAirways

Have you a link to the area on the website where this feature is viewable please?

Er, I posted it above 14 minutes before you asked that question, which I found in 10 seconds from a Google search. It’s not rocket science.

I found it on the BA website when I was checking some flight details.

A gentle reminder that if you have found some interesting info and post about it is to also post a link to the source.

They’re a tad late to the party on this and am not sure how I feel about it.

Have had some good deals on various airlines via bids, but the advantage of the current proactive upgrades on BA was that you could do it quite some time in advance and could rely on getting the extra tier points. Guess with the recent changes that doesn’t really matter anymore…

I got an offer for £79 to upgrade to CE a few weeks ago, MAN to LHR. I didn’t really think it was worth it, tbh!

For 40 TPs in old money probably yes. Now, no. Wonder how these will work with Oneworld programmes which are not revenue based.

The relative value of points earned is obviously now far less than it was, but the pro rata earnings on CE fares or upgrades are still better than on ET as most of the fees (apart from the higher APD) are the same.

In round numbers, spend £100 on an ET ticket and you only earn points on £30-35 of it. Spend £100 on a CE upgrade and you earn points on over £90 of it.

At that rate you’d ‘only’ need 28 CE upgrades for Bronze!
