Discuss today's stories:
Lots of problems with BA this week but not due to weather issues and before the Amstrad word processor that BA uses to poor their I.T. needed its batteries changed. Amongst other things, baggage delayed 24 hours on a 48-hour trip outbound (BA failing) and no bags yet 48 hours + on return (BA and MAN/Menzies big failings).
Again, frustrated and embarrassed (for visitors to Manchester) by the performance of Manchester Airport.
Friday on the Heathrow flight into T3, it was difficult to access the baggage conveyor due to the amount of bags stacked haphazardly from previous flights. On checking some of the labels, they had dates from 2 days previous. Of course, my baggage did not appear. Now 48 hours after reporting this to BA no luggage delivered. As BA confirmed that it was on the following same day flight, no doubt it is stacked with all the others and as not secure, at the risk of theft.
BA can help no further as they advise all management at MAN is contracted out to Menzies. I called Menzies and a disinterested employee gave a stock answer ‘that should be this week’. Crazy, all they have to do is arrange the usual taxi to deliver to my home. I even offered to collect but was told not possible.
I am inconvenienced, but what do visitors to Manchester think when they meet such disorganised chaos that is MAN and the staff’s consistent indifference?
I have many other stories of my pains in using MAN, if only we had a viable alternative.
There was a report in the MEN that when people were finally getting their luggage it had been opened and items stolen!
I don’t know what the answer is with MAN, it has so many failings. I guess it’s not important enough globally to shame the likes of Andy Burnham and MAG into taking action. I was reading on FT that they’ve pretty much announced that the moving walkways will never be back in service and that so it sounds like whole place might be allowed to fall into disrepair. We haven’t much choice for long haul as it’s still far more hassle to drive 200+ miles to LHR or LGW for us, but we do have the option of LPL which isn’t much further for us for short haul.
That said, my last 3 trips have been completely problem-free, though I put that down to only taking hand luggage and getting back in late at night when there are very few flights landing.

I am actually thinking of starting future long haul at LHR via one way train with an overnight and night out in London. Whatever the moans are about LHR at least BA staff are available and the place is not falling apart. Then accept MAN via LHR for the return leg to save the train. Might try it once, then regret bot nothing ventured….
LPL OK for low cost European, I agree.

A few years ago I flew from MAN and the terminal I was in was evacuated. We all had to go to another terminal and wait for news. News only came immediately before the issue was resolved 6 hours later. Meanwhile I was able to keep up to date with events via the Manchester Evening News website, as MAN completely neglected to tell us anything.
