My flight from SIN to LHR on BA metal on a BA flight number was delayed by over 25 hours earlier this month.
BA coughed up the £520 compensation (plus £65 in some data roaming charges) straight away. Plus 10,000 Avios.
Any experience/tips in getting more Avios out of them?
Why did they give you the 10k Avios in the first place? And why do you think you should get more, on top of the cash?!

Their first response to the delay claim included it.
“I’ve added 10000 Avios to your Executive Club account, and hope this goes some way towards making up for what happened.”
And why do you think you should get more, on top of the cash?!
Don’t ask, don’t get? I value my lost working time higher than £520.
The £520 is the statutory compensation
. You aren’t entitled to anything more no matter how much you value your time.
For some reason – likely an error – BA thought you should have some extra avios so take that and Be happy because absent any other circumstances they’ve met their obligations.

Yep understood, thanks.
It was less entitlement, more the art of the possible!
@jgsamuel – some bureaucrats and politicians decided on the liquidated damages/compensation amounts for long haul cancellations twenty years ago and four hour plus delays were granted the same sum a few years later following a CJEU decision. The purpose of fixed compensation is to keep it simple and avoid courts having to decide damages on a case by case basis. The fixed sum is also without prejudice to any other claim you may wish to make. It does mean that you are potentially being rather under compensated vs a passenger that was only 4h01m late but received the same sum.
If you think you are owed greater compensation, Article 12 expressly allows you to claim more. If it’s just a matter of being greedy, that’s a different issue.
You should also claim the cost of hotel for extra night plus transport to and from that acconnodation plus all meal costs for the extra 25hrs wait for replacement flight. At reasonable local rates, by submitting claim with receipts to airline under the right to care (as well as the compensation you had of £520).
