When is the best time to call BA’s contact centre?… been on hold for 35minutes… Just trying to get my upgrade voucher added to my avios booking. Painful.
uh finally got through only to be told you can’t retrospectively add a barclays voucher and get the avios refunded….
The wait time has been rather long of late I have noticed
If you had an existing full price booking and you were trying to retrospectively discount it then that is correct – not possible
What is possible with Amex vouchers is if you book an inbound flight at full price, you can get a retrospective refund of half of the Avios. I’m not sure that works with Barclays vouchers though
I tried to get a domestic connection added to a booking I’d made online with the upgrade voucher but the CSA would only do it if I paid the full RFS price for it – said the Ts and Cs wouldn’t allow for any changes without her charging me, there’s clearly something in the small print which is sending them into full-on contrary mode.
It was silly really, it wouldn’t let me use my Barclays to upgrade 2x return leg from MRU, despite booking ex-london
Now I’m confused – you can only use the voucher on a flight departing from the UK. So you could use it on the outbound, but not on the inbound (though not retrospectively AFAIK).

I think the issue here is @RTS booked their flights then called to apply the Barclays voucher when as far as I understand it to use it you have to do so when you book.
The Barclays isn’t the same sort of voucher as the AMEx 241.
That’s correct.
So here’s what I have found out re Barclays upg. Voucher.
You can only use it leaving from the UK.
You can only use it if you’re able to upg. BOTH legs. (I am heading to MRU, they only had Econ outbound but had Biz inbound – I wasnt able to use the voucher to just upg. My inbound).
If you want to upg. For 2 people on 1 leg it must be the outbound flight from UK.
You cannot use it to upgrade 2x inbound flights even if you book a return from UK.
I thought I might be able to get round this by booking 2x return to MRU using full avios (Econ out and Biz in), and ringing up BA to attach the upg. Voucher to my inbound flights therefore triggering a refund of the difference in avios. No dice. Haha…
