Makes sense as that’s the lowest cash value possible now on these
“I’ve cancelled two CE one way flights in the last week – one to Inverness the other from Bergerac. Charged 50p for flight booked a couple of months ago and £12.50 for one booked a week ago (new fees).”
Suspected that would be the case. Still small charge but glad it’s gone up stop some of the “I’ll book multiple flights cause it’s basically free to cancel”
Not a deliberate multiple booking, however I decided to cancel our Rome trip next Feb after finding out it was a Jubilee year (not totally sure what that entails but apparently it will mean the place will be heaving and even more expensive than usual!) Have rebooked to Valencia where I can get a hotel for under 100 euros per night!
Anyway, the data point is that the flights were booked well before the price changes and we were charged 50p per sector to cancel!
Thank you for the tip-off. I’m tied to Rome, haven’t booked yet for next year. Don’t have to find accommodation, at least. At http://www.iubilaeum25.va under ‘what is the jubilee?’ it explains. Yobel was a ram’s horn trumpet, a blast from which launched a ‘year out’ (7 x 7 years)+1 = every 50 years in ancient Israel. Land left fallow, undue debts cancelled, general chill-out. Has run in Rome since 1300, first every 100 years, then down to 50, now every 25. Complete a few simple tasks for sort of bronze rather than blue status, heavenward-bound.
Sounds like something which would have caused Martin Luther to furrow his brow! I shall be visiting the Plaza del Mercado in Valencia where there is a plaque commemorating Cayetano Ripoll, the last person to be executed by the Spanish Inquisition, in **1826** 😱
Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition.
How about the last execution by guillotine in France? 1977.
I know, but deplorable though capital punishment is, I think that was for murder, not for having different religious beliefs from the Catholic church!
How much was the cash element of the fare?
If it’s more than £35 then you pay £35. if less then it’s the 50p/leg
Two questions please:
1) So if it’s £35 exactly, then you pay the 50p/leg?
2) What if just a single leg has a £35 cash option? Would it still be 50p charge?
Thanks

Sorry, disagree. It can be difficult enough nowadays, to book popular destinations in Europe. If we can book 2/3 alternative return dates, gives us a lot more flexibility to extend by a few days or more etc. And I assume our cancellations go back into inventory.

to answer my own question…
The charge is £35! This is on a single leg trip

You disagree because it’s hard to book? You ever thought it’s hard to book because people like you are hugging multiple ticket bookings? Exactly the reason why the airlines over book and people get bumped.
Looks like BA has now fixed the issue where the website was letting everyone cancel for 50p / £12.50 and is now charging £35

Hallelujah; fairness for all, and people have been asking BA for IT improvements for Christmas.
Curiously, on two separate one-way Reward Flight Saver economy flights I cancelled three days ago I was charged:
– FLIGHT 1 – LCY-BCN One way – Economy
£17.50 minus £35.00 canx fee – Refund = £0.00
– FLIGHT 2 – BCN-LHR One way – Economy
£17.50 minus £31.70 canx fee – Refund = £3.30 (not yet received)
I don’t understand the £31.70 for the second flight – or why that leads to a refund (if indeed the money is returned).
