Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA custom trip tier points

  • 1 post

I’m looking at booking a trip with BA and only need a hotel for part of the trip. On the website I’m doing this through the custom trip section. Does this count as a holiday regarding the tier points or will I be getting short changed on the flight taxes etc?

If you book it on the BAH website (using the custom holiday builder) then it is a holiday. You will see as you click next you will get confirmation of that.

I tried just now to dona flight and hotel the night before and as I get to the payment page it says “Atol protected” which means it is a holiday package. (I can also just pay a deposit. But this is not always available)

For what it’s worth, a trip that is ATOL protected doesn’t necessarily meet the definition of a BAH that earns tier points for the full spend. For example, a flight, the price of which you know and then add a car or hotel booking in the same transaction would be ATOL protected but not earn the BAH TP. If the TP are a consideration, it’s worth reading the terms (they aren’t very lengthy) to be sure.

If you use the option from the BA landing page for flight & hotel or flight & car and then selecting the “create custom trip” then it will be a BA holiday.

Any other option such as using flight only and then adding a car or hotel later in the booking process does not automatically make it a holiday but a “linked travel arrangement”

    5. British Airways Holidays tier points awards do not apply to any British Airways flight bookings where the hotel or car is added to a booking in a ‘Shopping Basket’ with individually priced flight and hotel and/or car components or when added in Manage my Booking after the flight has been booked.
