Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA – economy class for all plus one suitcase

  • 10 posts

Family trip to Spain for wedding. How do I book everyone in Economy but have one person with hold baggage for all the dresses and potions? Can I add one suitcase, have one person in Economy Plus or do I need to do two separate bookings?

The price of economy vs. economy plus is exactly £50 (the price of adding luggage). You also get other things such as seat selection (24hrs before the flight vs. randomly at check in for “economy” – and which you may not need if you have silver or gold).

Given what you are asking the best would be to book everyone under the same economy reservation and then add as many suitcases as you require.

Thanks. My point is that it upgrading to economy plus needs to be done for all people on the booking. Where are single suitcases added? I can’t see it anywhere.

Once you book the flight (in economy “minus” without any extras) you can add suitcases to the booking easily.

Indeed, very easily done in MMB.

Note that adding luggage to a basic fare does not turn it into an economy plus ticket.

That’s not necessarily true in my experience. The price difference does vary and can often be less than adding checked luggage to a hand baggage only (basic) fare.

    @froggitt
, you can chose to pay to add the luggage or split the bookings. You can check the cost of the former on BA’s website. As I say, it may cost more and, as others have said, you don’t get the other benefits but it will keep everyone on the same booking so they attempt to seat you together. What you can’t do is mix Plus and Basic fares on the same booking, however splitting the booking is less of an issue if you were looking to do advanced seat selection (via status or paid selection) or don’t care about being seated together.

Thank you for all the replies. Years since I flew BA.

So, booked the seats today. A most unsatisfactory experience. Trying to get more information on the phone, I must have pressed 9 or 10 options to get “sorry, goodbye”.

You can’t add any checked baggage while making an economy basic booking. You can’t even see how much checked baggage is before you book.

It turns out that for my flights, the cost per flight of buying checked baggage online is £40, whereas the cost to upgrade to Economy Plus (or whatever its called) is £16, so I split it into two separate bookings….all pretty crap if you ask me! Not been on BA in 20 years, not going to be anywhere near the top of my list going forward.

I’m just staggered that you are tempting fate by putting all of the wedding outfits for the party in a single case.

It’s not something I’d do with any airline!

It’s family, if BA lose the cases, we go to the wedding in jeans and put the photos on Twitter!

Oh ffs, I’ve added my own passport etc to the booking with me on, I’m now wanting to add passport for everyone else on the other booking and We can only add bookings you are travelling on.

Not really thought this through have they?

Incidentally Ranjit, or whatever his name was on the live chat, also suggested creating two separate bookings. I guess there’s no way of linking the two so they look like just the one booking?
