Following free in-flight messaging for Exec Club members, just wondering if anyone had heard any murmurings or had any thoughts on BA providing enhanced in-flight WiFi to Bronze/Silver/Gold cardholders? Seems like it could be an easy enhancement to reward/encourage loyalty, e.g. on long haul flights Bronze gets upgraded from free messaging WiFi to 1 hour free full WiFi, Silver gets 2 hours free full wifi, Gold gets 3 hours free full wifi (First continues to get whole flight free), etc. May even help them sell more to these pax if they give them a taster during the flight?
Whilst I generally like this idea, they’ve got a fair bit of basic groundwork to be getting on with to encourage loyalty first!
That’s true… having the website work so you can actually book flights may be a better place for them to start 😂
Given that they only just announced free messaging I very much doubt it, although I think its a no-brainer on short haul – virtually no-one uses it at the moment and there is tons of capacity being wasted.
I imagine BA are charged not just for the service but for data usage also. Since they are using satellite comms it isn’t cheap, so whilst messaging (without photo/video) is a few bytes, a single webpage can be a few MB (e.g. News.bbc.co.uk is around 1MB). That’s a lot of WhatsApp messages 😉
