Leaving aside the frequent criticism of BA F, I have an expiring 241 this month, which happens to coincide with a large period of leave. I like to use the 241 in F, as a treat every year or two, whether one way or return. Whilst it makes sense, I don’t necessarily have to depart LHR – it could be just the return leg to London if I get to my destination by other means. I’m based in Spain. Am I right in thinking there are now no ways to avoid the ~£800 taxes and charges of a BA F ticket ex-LHR? Are there any inbound LHR starting points where the cash element is much less? Thanks
Shanghai… £400ish from LHR, £200ish from PVG.
JNB-LHR 2 people with BAPP voucher 85k Avios and £686 off peak. There is availability at the moment July 2026.
Just to clarify – do you mean do have to book and fly your outbound leg this month? F seats have been in short supply lately so in that case you may just have to search SeatSpy for what availability there is!
If you’ve found seats, have you tried starting in Spain, e.g. MAD-LHR-XXX? This might yield lower charges plus suit your personal circs.
Last 2 weeks of this month there is F availability outbound to JNB, DOH, MEX and various North American cities. Thinking about it, Rob did run an article recently on plenty of seats appearing in the immediate future but little beyond that.
