Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Flight to CHQ – What a day!

  • 13 posts

We were on the 10:45 LHR/CHQ flight on Saturday. CE. What a nightmare day this turned out to be!

We boarded as normal and on time. Captain then informed us that due to weather we would be delayed and that we would push back but park somewhere as the gate was needed. Following pushback and parking, we waited for a period and was then informed that there was a technical problem. Maintenance would be coming to fix this. They came and despite doing a reset, problem was not resolved. This was now some 2 ½ hours sitting on a warm plane – no drinks/water offered by crew during this time. We were then informed that crew will now be out of hours/plane gone tech and that we would be returning to gate. We were then quickly given water & a small packet of crisps (bit late?!) On disembarkation we were given the standard BA £10 refreshment voucher. Luckily, as CE pax we could return to BA Lounge.

We waited for a long time in lounge. Finally, flight was announced to depart at 5:30pm (new plane and standby crew). We boarded plane on time only be told by Captain that we would be delayed due to weather conditions and getting a slot – new departure time of 7:15pm. So yet again we had to wait on the plane until finally we departed at 7pm.
So, our original landing time for CHQ was supposed to be 16:50 but turned out to be 00:22. This obviously messed up our transfer too. We eventually arrived at our accommodation around 4am. Tired wasn’t the word! We had been up nearly 24 hours since we left home at this point.

On a positive note, T5 check in and fast track was quick. BA standby crew and service on flight were good. BA crew in morning not so good – no communication, no drinks offered & appeared disinterested.

Anyway, over it all now & enjoying the lovely weather here in Rethymnon! Let’s hope our return flight all goes smoothly.

I’d be pleased they managed to rustle up a standby crew, not a given at the moment even at their home base! Enjoy your holiday!

Sometimes it’s simply not possible to offer refreshments especially with a rolling delay

Personally I’ve never been refused a request for some water when sat in CE. What they can’t / wpm’t do is serve the whole plane (using supplies that should be used onthe flight)

To their credit, a couple of times of very long waits after loading, going over the 2 hour limit and still stuck on the aircraft, Easyjet has brought out the trolley and offered free non-alcoholic drinks.

The 2 occasions I remember were pre-Covid. Not sure if they would do it the same way now. I would suppose Easyjet was just providing the duty of care they were obliged to.
