if I choose to fly Dublin to Heathrow, Heathrow to Chicago – on the way return home is it possible to to skip the last flight?
I’d rather just collect my bag at Heathrow and be on my way, as opposed to going back to Dublin and then having to get back to the UK again.

As long as you don’t make a habit of it.

Baggage will be an issue as outstations won’t short check so you’ll have to wait for BA to extract if from the system at LHR

In the future book the final leg from LCt

I’ve not booked anything yet, just looking at options.

    LCT – London City ?

Yes sorry fat fingers plus on a coach – LCY

as you’ve not booked it yet Id price up the trip as ending at LHR.

Yes, of course it’s possible, BA won’t drag you onto a plane at gunpoint.

BA won’t agree to check your bag to Heathrow only though, so your options are to ask at baggage reclaim to find it which could take around 2 hours even without the current problems at Heathrow; or book the last flight as LCY-DUB and they will be forced to check it to LHR.

If you do this too often, and booked via travel agents there is a remote possibility BA will debit the travel agent the higher fare (could be a few 000s) for a ticket ending at Heathrow and the travel agent may want to recover the money from you. If you booked directly there is a possibility that BA could close your BAEC and remove your avios, so far not heard of this happening.

assuming i would need to ring the call centre for this? the BA website just assumes I need to get back to Dublin.

ah ok, thanks both. I get it now. Collect the bag at Heathrow, “get to LCY at my own cost” blah blah but just go home 🙂

my other concern, I do actually need to get back to Manchester – so if i book a separate flight for Heathrow to Manchester will BA smell a rat?

Use the multi city tool and for the return put in XXX – MAN.

Have you thought about just shipping your luggage back to Manchester? The prices are relatively reasonable when you factor in the aggro on re-collecting it and you could just get the train back rather than the irregular, often cancelled man-lhr shuttle. I wish I’d done that rather than the 7 Hr layover I had last year.

Train is a pain with luggage but if you only have hand baggage it’s a more viable option.

    Not a good idea.
