Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA Holidays and IHG points

Hi all, new here, so excuse me if this is old hat for you all.
With the news from BAEC and switch to revenue based, I booked a future stay in Malta via BA Holidays and combining with IC hotel. I am BAEC Gold (for now LOL), and IHG Diamond and AMB. I just found out that IHG will not credit the stay as I didn’t book direct with them. I seem to recall similar things years ago but thought that was all in the past. Is there any way round this so I can still maximise spend with BA (aiming now for Silver) and get credit with IHG?

    That’s correct.

If you want the IHG nights / points you need to book direct with the hotel.

It’s always been the case that you need to book direct to get the main benefits like points and night credits. Some properties will give upgrades and free breakfasts with a BAH, but that’s at their discretion.

For future reference consider a hire car, or you can also add extra hotel nights (e.g. if you need an airport hotel at the start and end of the trip), to direct more spend towards BA.

Specifically for Ambassador, it’s the benefits guarantee – not the benefits themselves – that is disapplied on a 3rd party booking. Now of course there’s the matter of how much a benefit is worth if it’s not guaranteed, but it’s slightly better than ‘discretionary’. The one time I booked an IC through BAH I did indeed get an AMB bill credit but was not offered a Diamond welcome benefit (I didn’t request a late check out and there wasn’t a room category to upgrade to).

The hotel is having to pay 20%+ to BA in commission – what are they meant to fund your benefits from?
