Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA Holidays + guest hotel room

  • 50 posts

    Hello there,

I am not sure if anyone experienced this before but I have a booking for an hotel in Berlin and now a friend of mine wants to join.

If I get the hotel to add my guest, would the tier points for my BA holidays split in half (2 people staying in the hotel) or would BA not find out at all?

    Thanks!

Presumably you mean sharing your room? I think BA added something to the BAH terms along the lines of if anyone other than the person/people named on the booking uses any of the elements booked, all the TPs could potentially be withheld. So I suppose it depends on you appetite for risk, as they say on here, and whether you think the hotel might inform on you!

Also, you can’t add someone just to the hotel part of a BAH, so I don’t even think splitting the TPs on that basis would even be considered.

You probably don’t need to ask the hotel to add the name. Check in alone and you are 100% safe.

You will get away with it, but it’s not the greatest idea. In the event of an emergency the hotel need to know how many people are in each room..

I booked via BAH on a trip to Japan a couple of years ago, booking for 3 people and booked a room for 4 at the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo. My partner made their own way to Japan. I contacted the hotel in advance and checked if it would be OK. They asked me to pay a small supplement because the room also came with lounge access, but otherwise fine. No issues with TPs, and I don’t see any reason (or even mechanism) to let BA know.

If it’s the Hilton (or better still the Waldorf Astoria, which is great) and you have Hilton status, I believe you get a free additional guest as a benefit.

Hilton benefits do not need to be honoured on agency bookings.

In any case, you don’t need any Hilton status to avail of the 2nd guest stays free benefit, just to be a member.

No chain hotel in Germany has ever cared about how many people were in my room, and I have never been asked to show ID in German hotels either.

If it’s a BAH, hotels don’t have to recognise status.

I can’t find a link to the relevant BA page, but the first post on this thread lists the BAH Ts & Cs from April 1st, see number 7 on adding extra guests:
