Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Household Account -> Qatar redemption

  • 100 posts

I’m sure this must have come up before, and I’m surprised that I don’t already know the answer, but:

I have a BA HHA with 2 members. I want potentially to use the combined balance to book a redemption with Qatar (as opposed to booking QR flights on BA), but I don’t see how to get the whole balance across. (I don’t see anything like a HHA at the Qatar side.)

What are the pros and cons of booking redemptions at QR vs the same flights on BA?

I have almost the same question. I’ve searched, and there doesn’t seem to be a way of doing it.

Never done it but could you gift the Avios of person B to person A within the same household account?

If avios and taxes are the same then if anything I prefer booking qr flights on ba as I worry that if something goes wrong qr’s customer service is worse than ba’s

Some say that if you redeem QR flights via QR, they may give you better options in the event of IRROPS or schedule changes, whilst book via BA you will have to accept whatever QR throws at BA as QR will consistently decline any Oneworld Liasion request (unless you are on BA/QR Joint Business route).

Also QR has lower cancellation fee (US$25), but QR doesn’t have first 24-hour free cancellation policy.

One way to get the balance merged cheaply would be to combine via Finnair – they charge only EUR10 per transaction online to transfer the points. I had done a few times to get all points consolidated via Finnair for easier management.

What I was going to mention but note that you have to have had Finnair opened for (3?) months before you can use this brill feature.

Yes, or 90 days to be exact
“Avios can be transferred only after the sender has had a Finnair Plus account for more than 90 days.”

Thanks all – especially for the Finnair transfer info. I would prefer to book with BA but I seem to recall seeing different availability on QR previously. Anyway, this trip is not for a while and I’m pretty flexible on dates – so I might wait for availability with BA.

You will have a much harder time trying to make changes to a QR flight booked through BAEC.
