Hi all, hoping someone might have some advice on a convoluted travel issue I’ve had. I’ve read through the various EU/UK cancellation rights docs, and I’m confused.
I was due to fly BA from YYZ-LHR-MAN, but a combination of weather and an aircraft flipping over on landing in Toronto meant the BA aircraft ended up in Hamilton. That flight was cancelled and, after telling BA agents on the phone that I was not forking out £900 to be put on an Air France flight the same day, they rebooked me on a KLM routing YYZ-AMS-MAN… which was also cancelled. BA said it’s down to KLM to pay me any compensation.
After arguing with KLM and queuing for 2 hours in a chaotic YYZ airport (and buying the girl dealing with everyone shouting at her some chocolates as a thank you) she got me on an Air France YYZ-CDG-MAN. I’ll ultimately arrive into MAN about 7 hours later than I would have done with BA.
Do I actually have any claim here? And who should pay it?
If the KL flight was cancelled due to the crash and the related weather at Toronto, then these would be extraordinary circumstances and you won’t be due any compensation.
