My son & his girlfriend got notice this week that their flight from LHR to Gothenburg (08.40) in mid June has been cancelled (just outside the 14 days, but still due a duty of care) They have been offered another flight later that day (16.10) but as they are only going for 2 nights for a family members graduation will lose the whole first day. The graduation is in Halmstad the following morning so would work for them if they could take a reroute to Copenhagen same day as original flight (10.10). Just called BA agent checked & said this would not be possible as different country (Sweden v Denmark) anyone any experience of being able to get a reroute to a different country bordering original arrival destination? My only experience has been an on board reroute on way to Gibraltar rerouting to Malaga. Should they try again with another agent or is it really not possible? Agent did then mention possible for a charge but was not forthcoming with how much would cost.
When mentioning the charge for reroute to Copenhagen he said it could only be calculated on a later flight that day as the earlier flight they wanted was too expensive !
They’re only entitled to be re-routed to the original destination city, but that is regardless of cost or airline. The Gib/Malaga reroute would probably have been due to weather, so a potential emergency.
There did used to be some sort of affiliated BA service from MAN to Gothenburg, if they don’t relish a fight with BA that might be working looking into?
They need to call again – BA has an official policy that allows reroute to an alternative gateway within 300 miles when a flight is cancelled
Note this is only for the cancelled leg, if their flight back from Gothenburg isn’t impacted then BA won’t change that one
Might be a good one to try via live chat or Twitter DM as well

@SamG – that’s what I thought as well, and it definitely used to be the case, but on looking at the current guidelines when I saw the original question, the 300 miles concession appears to have disappeared.
If you mean the travel trade ones then it’s there – option 7. I think they moved it down, perhaps they’re discouraging it.
