Hi everyone,
Longtime lurker, first time poster here! I’ve been quietly soaking up the wisdom on this forum for quite a while, and I can honestly say I’ve learned so much from all of you.
I was reading the 8 March 2024 article “How to use the British Airways multi-partner chart to redeem Avios on 2+ oneworld airlines” and came across this point:
In theory you can book a segment in economy – and the rest of the itinerary in business – and upgrade that segment later for free if availability in Business Class appears.
Has anyone actually done this in practice?
Is the article referring to: upgrading the already-booked economy leg without any additional Avios or fees (beyond the original cost) or something else?
Has anyone actually done this in practice?
Yes, but must be done before any part of the itinerary is flown, and it is complete murder to achieve. The chances of you calling up and speaking to anyone in India with any idea what a multi-partner booking even is is basically nil. Cancel the whole thing and rebook is probably what you’ll need to do, and that requires seats in the inventory you want to be available across the whole piece (or rapidly drop back in to availability after you cancel).
In summary: yes, it’s possible, do not rely on being able to actually do it.
