Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA pricing confusion on a codeshare

    Some help please.

Through google flights I’ve a good price HEL/ORD but there’s a difference in price on the same flights!

Click through to book on Finnair and it’s AY flight numbers but click through to Ba.com and it’s BA flight numbers but £215 more expensive.

Same flight times and route so why the difference and would I miss out on anything by booking through Finnair and adding by BAEC number? The TP calculator on the BA website does not differentiate if I use BA or Finnair.

Appreciate I need positioning flights but Avios will cover that and plenty of hotel points.

    TIA as always

Each airline will have access to different pricing due to fare classes availability. For instance AY may be offering their cheapest business class while BA is offering more expensive fare classes for the same flight.

Take the money. DUB-LHR-SFO-PSP, booked on AA.com, £1350. Exactly the same flights on BA website was £1850. Who cares why, or that obviously they’ll be sharing the money anyway, go with the cheaper surely….

I’ve come across the before and looked into the differences.

Basically it’s AY selling its very basic business class fare (think not much of a baggage allowance and no lounge access) and BA selling the fare with bags etc.

Take the AY fare if you have BA silver or above which gives lounge access. If no status pay the extra £215 and book via BA.

Booking on BA could also give you some advantages as 24 hrs cool off period (something you won’t get on AY).

Rebooking options could also change. For instance the cheapest CX ticket allows changes or cancellations for £300pp. The same ticket with BA I don’t believe allows that.
