Hey all – I’m looking to book some flights through Qatar using the new Avios Max.
I’ve got Silver BA status and have now set up by Priviledge Club and linked my BA Exec Club account.
I’m still showing as Burgundy however. If I buy a ticket, will my ticket be OneWorld gold? Or is there an error, or are they not interchangable? I’d ideally like to select my seats etc. when I make the booking.
Cheers!
Whilst avios are interchangeable status and tier points aren’t.
There is a way to add your BAEC number (and hence BA status) to the QR booking but I can’t remember what it is! But I’m sure someone who does will be along soon.
Yes your Qatar Privilege account will remain burgundy and does not match your BA status. If you want the flights to credit to BA then you will need to use your BA Exec number into the booking, either during or after booking. This will also grant you oneworld sapphire benefits on your QR booking.
As you want to pay with avios via your QR account you might need to change your frequent flyer membership number after booking to your BA one so that you get the relevant status benefits and flight credits to BA. I am not sure if this can be done via MMB on QR’s site but I believe you can change it on another Oneworld’s member MMB site. Alternatively contact QR after booking to get this changed.
Ok great – thanks. Sounds like that’s the info I’m looking for!
Ok cool – thanks LittleNick that’s very helpful!
I had to contact QR via app chat to get this sorted, but to their credit they responded and did it very quickly. You need to make it clear that you need your booking amending to show your BA status, as they can’t see this on your QR account.
Cool, sounds easy enough. Separately, does anyone know whether the Qatar cancel within 24 hours for free applies to part pay with avios flights too?
No, they dont offer the free 24 cancelation that BA do, i had to pay £25 if i recall
BTW – with seat selection it normally lets you select them at booking
It didn’t for me, on either of my bookings, hence having to use chat. Don’t know if I missed something during the booking process, at no point did I see anywhere to add my BAEC number.
@NorthernLass I think what the other poster was trying to say is that with Qatar most fares have free seat selection, albeit you cannot select some better seats.
With regards to BAEC and Privilege Club status, these are separate FF scheme with the oddities that Avios can actually be transferred, but they are still separate (Like IberiaPlus, AirLingus and few others). So when booking with QR PC account, your Qatar FF number is automatically added. What you could have done is to use another OneWorld airlines website MMB to call out your booking, remove the FF number and then add your BAEC one. I have used Royal Jordanian in the past but I believe Finnair also allow it. If you had to do something similar with BAEC, I believe there is the option to book for someone else, and for that someone else you add your exact name but the different airline FF number
Those are very interesting answers and suggestions. I was wondering if someone might have some ideas on my scenario.
– I have Silver BAEC status with a membership year that ends in May.
– I have a Burgandy Privilege Club membership (with 130 Qpoints (20 points short of Silver), which I suspect will expire as the membership start month is December and last flew in January 2023.)
I am looking at booking Qatar business class (R) flights for April 2024 and would like the free seat selection option rather than paying a supplement.
– If I add my Silver BAEC membership number to the booking, will I be given access to free seat reservations?
– Is there a benefit of earning miles under Privilege Club vs BAEC?
– What are the pros and cons to using either loyalty scheme on the booking?

Is there anything else to consider? All suggestions are welcome! 🙂
I entered the BAEC membership number whilst booking and was then able to reserve the seats for free after completing the booking. Otherwise, during the booking process, it was going to charge roughly €70 per leg.
