Being reported on FT that BA have ceased sale of other than full fare Y tickets on short haul from LHR, until after Easter.
Being suggested that this is trying to better manage what little resources they have for existing bookings.
Probably makes sense in short term, but they’re losing credibility in spades here.
MMB offering me the chance to rebook for my flight next week as the earlier flight that day has been cancelled – so inevitably it’ll be overbooked and they are trying to offload some people voluntarily.
They did this in 2019 to help manage numbers during the pilots strike that was due to happen.
If you wanted to stay on the flight no problem but good if you wanted to change your trip.
This appears to be true if a couple of dummy bookings to JER are to be believed (c. £500 return… whew).
Again, as per a couple of previous posts on this topic, THIS NEEDS TO BE COMMUNICATED by BA! Anyone who looks at a route and gets an extortionate quote may well be put off looking again for life.
Their PR throughout the past few weeks has been appalling. The last post on their twitter was on 21/3/22 about the China Eastern flight.

I agree with you, but I think BA know they can get away with whatever they want. People will still travel with them. That’s the power that monopolies have.

Why would BA or should BA communicate this? Fares move up and down all the time without any communication from airlines. They have removed many discounted fares from sale as they can’t cope with the existing loads, so don’t want more bookings currently. This is to protect existing bookings, even though there will still no doubt be plenty of short notice cancellations.
Indeed. Also don’t see why they would communicate. And £500 r/t on short notice during school holidays is not exactly a very extraordinary price, let alone extortionate.
£660 Return for LHR-EDI Domestic! £900 for Business.
Thank goodness for Cityflier into LCY or Lumo into KGX.
I have business meeting in Oslo on Tuesday so have a BA flight on Monday at 1pm. Noticed in the booking that bit says there could be potential issues and it you want to rebook, click the link below , otherwise there is no need to do anything for now ?? . The app says “on time” against the flight !
I checked and they are no longer selling the flight …. Any insight what really is happening anyone !It sounds as though everything is having to be done manually by BA.
Wow. That must have been some meltdown. Usually there’s a backup to go back to, then some sort of log to re-apply the new transactions since then. Surprised they weren’t running dual mirror systems. But what do I know about airline IT probably nothing
So any tips if travelling CE from T5 to TFS during the Easter holidays with my family? If I do whatever Verifly needs with hand luggage only can I go straight to security or are there some manual checks that need to be done first?
@t0m – in theory you should be able to go straight to security but we couldn’t check in online on Monday for our flights and the ground staff said there are known issues with VeriFly, so it might help to have a plan B. We were staying overnight at MAN so went over to the terminal and got checked in then while it was relatively quiet as there have been numerous reports of horrendous queues in the mornings.

Any insight what really is happening anyone !At the moment they’ve got a blanket “stop sell” on short haul and all flights have been allowed FOC changes. This is likely to give them time to assess the situation without more sales coming in. I imagine as they consolidate their operations some flights will come back on sale once rebookings are complete. So I’d keep a close eye on your flight status but at this stage it’s still going !

No manual checks. They’ll ask for your documents in MMB. Some routes they use VerfiFly, others just via MMB. Once verified you’ll be able to check in online and just go straight to security if you’re hand luggage only. No other checks.
This is not about IT, this is a catastrophic failure to recruit sufficient staff to meet the needs of the operation they have planned to deliver. In short piss poor operational management!
The IT debacle is a long term strategic failure of management.
Covid plays a part given the all time record number of infections, in short piss poor governance at National level.
Yesterday there were scenes of utter mayhem at Manchester airport and Dover was gridlocked for hours. My daughters 8am sailing saw her sail at 1pm.
The U.K. is again facing 1970’s style terminal decline through a mixture of governmental policy, incompetence and ideology. This when combined with dire corporate leadership is a long term problem and there is currently no sign of a turnaround. Indeed no sign of a plan to turnaround.
