So trying to use my Amex 2-1 voucher for a flight in business class for 2

Used the ba tool where you can check availability for numerous routes by month year etc without specifying a date . there isn’t any seats to las , lax, sfo , sin for the whole year does that seam correct ?

Those are popular routes which tend to get booked up early so that may be correct, however it’s always worth checking individual routes by doing a dummy booking as availability changes all the time. If you’re set on using your 241 to the USA on specific dates, also consider booking a route with a lot of avios seats, like NYC, and getting a connecting flight to your destination.

Also use Seat Spy to check availability if you have it. Reward Flight Finder will also do basic searches for free (I think) but has had reliability issues.

On RFF I can see plenty of availability outbound to LAX from November onwards in CW (so you might have to consider returning in PE), so it’s worth having a play around with the booking system and see what comes up.

Another tip which might be useful for you – BA has reduced the number of F flights a lot but you can still find them most weeks to some cities – IAD and BOS particularly. It might be nice to do the journey to the east coast in F if you haven’t done it before then connect. Especially off peak it’s not much more in terms of avios and surcharges. We’re doing this at Xmas – F to IAD then more award flights on AA to Key West, then back from MIA – you can do open jaw with the 241 as well which can add flexibility.

Is this an old 241 with limited fare buckets or a new 241 with more availability?

One of the selling points of the 241 really shouldn’t be to maybe get half way there before connecting to continue your journey.

Looking in the app there is plenty of seats to the US west coast for Jan to March 2023 but slim pickings before then.

I don’t agree – you might want to go somewhere that BA doesn’t actually fly to, or where availability is very poor. Some of our best holidays have been where we’ve had a few days in a city en route to our final destination. There are also plenty of HFP readers who have wanted to go to SYD but haven’t 241 availability so use the voucher to somewhere like SIN or BKK then connect from there. You have to recognise the limitations of the 241 if you want to get the most from it.

It’s the old 2-4-1 voucher and it has to be used by end of Sep . I’ve tried so many routes for May jun to the US but nothing

There is limited availability for West coast prior to November. I have found the ‘extra’ availability from the new 241 to be very limited. An easier way to search availability is to look on the BA Avios estore click spend and add flight destination and fare class. It shows daily availability for a year.

I’ve just done a “where can I go” search on RFF and for May and June it’s showing at least 2 CW seats outbound to Austin, Dallas, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Boston. Any one of these could be the start of a great trip. As I said, you might need to return in another cabin but as these are usually overnight flights you’re not missing an awful lot.

There are also LOTS of PE seats available which might be better than losing the voucher altogether, especially as cash prices are high at the moment.

For instance – there’s availability in CW to Austin on June 2nd, returning in PE on numerous other dates, e.g. June 18th.

I’m also not impressed with the “extra availability”, those some people have found otherwise.

@hugor, out of interest, did you check any of these?

Once again, flexibility is the name of the game. It is dead easy to get to the US anytime…you might not like the destination but there will be a bus along shortly to your final destination. Easy.
