I’m trying to book a reward flight, for two, using the newest companion voucher as follows:-
MAD-PTY Business
MEX-MAD (via LHR) First (LHR-MAD is of course only business)
Web site can’t cope so I have to ring to get a quote.
By my reckoning (using the web for dummy one way flights) For two adults with companion voucher.
MAD-PTY in Business is 42500 + £200 ish
Mex-Mad via LHR in First is 105000 + £832 ish
So total is 147500 + £1032.
Quotes from agents who have struggled to price this are:
140,250 Avios + £1395
So how can I be sure they’re correct and is there a way to get this confirmed?
Just for a comparison to see if a trip to MAD saves money I ran my own quote and then asked for LHR-PTY (Business) , MEX-LHR First
My reckoning was 62500 + £624 and 85000 +£736 Total 14750 Avios and £1380
So looks favourable
Agents quote was 165000 + £1632.00 !!!
Seems like they make it up as they go along.
So if I get charegd the “wrong” figures how do I get it fixed?
One last oddity.
MEX-LHR in First was 85000 Avios, Business was 90000!
I’m trying to see if it’s worth the hassle and extra £££ to get the First class flight from MEX-LHR (then MAD) or just stick to an easier MEX-MAD business with Iberia. (85000 Avios +£476) + positioning flight cost and hotel
Thoughts?
One last oddity.
MEX-LHR in First was 85000 Avios, Business was 90000!
RFS isn’t available in F but it is in Club so you can pay fewer avios but more in cash.
In this scenario, checking two one ways and adding them together doesn’t work; it’s combining the two that doesn’t work. In particular, mixing any BA flight with an Iberia one on these routes seems to mess things up, with or without RFS and here where you are mixing Business and First seems to send the system haywire although different agents get different results.
Re MEX F/J pricing, it probably isn’t quite as it seems as you will have more TFCs on the First one – although the last time I paid the fees that route, one way MEX-LHR it was 85k + £240 in Dec 2021 which is similar to the J RFS as BA makes them the same in each direction at £225 even though from LHR the APD and airport charge is a greater sum.

Thanks for the reply.
So how can I be sure I’m getting the correct\accurate quote?
And on a personal note is F worth it from MEX-LHR (BA 787 I think) or wouldl Iberia Business be fine (for a lot less Avios)
All I need is a confy seat and decent food!
I’ve flown F a couple of times.
One last oddity.

Thanks I think that’s also where the agents quote came from 140,250 Avios + £1395
So mine is more Avios and less money 147500 + £1032.
Price them up as separate bookings; this can work out as less cash overall as you’re booking your F seats on one booking and RFS in J on another.
@Blindman67 – currently it’s obviously old Club on the 789; just done that back from Shanghai 14h25 daytime flight; not a very agreeable experience although China based crew excellent. Hopefully suites should be installed through next year, but I think the 9s will be done after the 8s. Personally, I find F to be a significantly better experience, even over suites but many don’t agree.
If you are travelling for decent food, then BA is a bad airline choice! Having said that, historically the BA food out of MEX has been really dire even in F, but has recently improved somewhat. The lounge situation in MEX is poor so you won’t get decent food there either, although there are decent public restaurant food offerings and the Plat lounge before security has decent freshly prepared food.
