What are the conflicting reports on this as the only actual information I have seen is what BA has posted on X/Twitter in response to questions and where they have said there is no change to soft landings?

Has more information been released or is it just ongoing speculation on this and other sites?

Nick, who is senior at BA, said in our comments that they were going. There is no mention of them in the FAQ anywhere which tells you what you need to know.

However I suspect this is from April 2026. You WILL get one on 1st April 2025.

My gold expires end of July this year, so still anticipating a soft landing until end of April 2026 (already 3m shorter than expected). Fingers crossed the end of April 2025 isn’t the last date a soft landing will be granted as due the alignment of years, I’ll be hoping for one 3 months later in the summer. It has to be the very minimum and hopefully by then the dust will have settled and everyone will have a better understanding of how the new scheme works (Amex etc.) and more importantly an idea of the alternatives.

For those saying it’s logical SL’s go, of course BA can do as they wish, and it will reduce numbers – but they were no more or less fair/unfair under the old system vs. the new.

As I posted on the main article, I was told this by the BA Twitter team after a few days: “To confirm, we haven’t made any changes to our ‘soft landing’ proposition. We hope this helps to put your mind at ease a little”. Now we can argue about legal rights and I clearly won’t be taking BA to court over this, but there is very little ambiguity in that statement and I’d like to think BA keep their word for SL’s in 2025.

Nick from BA might have said in the comments that soft landings are going (although I didn’t see that post) however others have quoted BA themselves in responses to direct queries, that there is no intention to change the current soft landing system. Clearly there is a lot of misinformation flying around on this and perhaps best until BA clarifies their position officially, like in the FAQs, because it could severely affect spend up until end of March.
Personally I’m not sure they have decided or it would have been something in the FAQs already.

Perhaps some sense on keeping soft landings until 26/27 as the higher thresholds would have kicked in by then. Whether other loyalty schemes have them or not is of little relevance.

Well there was “no intention” to change BAEC scheme until, er, there was – with 3 months notice.

Changes like this should be over multiple years – customers are invested and don’t like it when the rug is pulled from under their feet. I don’t believe anyone that says “I’m NEVER flying BA again”, but they may look at all options rather than just focusing on BA

@RonnieB – I don’t think you can count on the X responses from BA staff as carrying much weight. It’s quite possible BA will say nothing further officially. It’s always been unofficial. If pressed, the extraordinary generosity of soft landings and effective further delay in implementation of the new system might get reconsidered if it hasn’t been already.

@JDB – well you can be sure if there’s no soft landings BA will tell us that it’s based on customer feedback. 😂

Apart from their LHR slots, BA isn’t offering much at the moment…

Well I feel cheated, I booked an expensive J BA holiday to Mykonos in October, calculating that whatever else, this getting me to Gold would give us an extra year of free seat choice on our 2 a year Amex 2 for 1 vouchers.
I definitely wouldn’t have done so had I believed they were going to renege on the soft landings without enough warning.

Once my gold is up, I think we will drop Amex and go for either low-cost in Europe, and low-cost premium economy or J for long haul.

I’m sure this will save us quite a bit in the long run.

    Sorry, missed a bit out.
