BA ticketed Qatar flights – upgradeable?

Hi,

If I book a ba ticketed flight flying on Qatar airways through the ba site then am I correct in assuming I won’t be able to use my Avios or qpoints to upgrade it ?

I am not so sure. My friend is quite certain he upgraded a Qatar cash fare using Avios in the exec club (I mentioned here: https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/upgrade-qatar-flights-with-ba-avios/)

Would make sense too with Qatar using Avios now. The only think that makes me doubt my friend is that it hasn’t been mentioned here! And I’m not quite willing to book a cash Qatar economy fare to check.

We are planning a QR Y run to Sharjah in September. But hoped for a QR cash upgrade offer for the return leg from Doha. Choosing QR as opposed to BA, better Y service and a such a short run… and the upgrade offer is straight to J on QR, as opposed to PE on BA. An auction win, with a use by deadline! Booking any day now, so will soon find out.
I am wondering if there is a cooling off 24 hrs on baec for qr bookings? Guess it applies to all BA bookings? Must check.

@Anuj, good point. That’s something we would be interested in also. How do we check tho?

@polly You can apparently do it but only in person at the airport, although I’m not sure if it actually works because they had absolutely no business availability on either of my 4 flights. At Doha the best place to try is at the silver lounge south desk.

Does anyone know the confirmed position on this? I can’t find the relevant info online.

My wife is booked on a BA ticketed, operated by Qatar flight, in Economy. I don’t see an option online to upgrade her to Business class.

Can it be upgraded at the airport? If so, can i use the BA household Avios to upgrade?

She has 0 Avios currently but has plenty of Amex points so I’m trying to work out if she should convert Amex to Privelege club or BAEC, or just use the household Avios (if an upgrade is possible).

Booked economy on Qatar and was hoping to upgrade using Avios. Cant find how to do it? or if it is even an option? suggestions would be appreciated?
