Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

It looks like using a companion voucher and avios is a bit of a sweet spot in using it to get to Bermuda. Even if you go economy as it’s a relatively short flight. Has anyone recently done this journey for less than a week?

The return takes off at 7pm and lands at 6:45am. It’s only 6h 30m so you’d essentially miss a night of sleep.

I imagine it will be similar to doing a US city/short break in that you have a similar time difference and not a lot of time to adapt, so if you struggle with jet lag it might not be a great idea. Also a bit of a long way to go to fly and flop – do you have a specific reason to visit?

My friend went to Bermuda in economy on 241 last year.

He enjoyed it but was ready to come home after 5 days. He said it was more expensive than the US.

From Heathrow it’s almost exactly the same distance as Dubai. Time wise think about someone living in Dubai visiting the UK, if there was only one flight a day.

The only possibility of daytime flights in both directions would be something like LON-BDA 6am-10am BDA-LON 12noon-11pm, unless the plane overnights in BDA.

The Atlantic/Caribbean BOT’s are wildly expensive – think at least 3 x U.K. prices. But living standards are very high and public transport is decent, though you can now hire some sort of tiny 2-person car in Bermuda after years of rental vehicles being banned.

There are very few chain hotels, although a new Hilton property has been under construction for a few years now.

The little electric two seater cars are great fun (Renault Twizys). You use a app to pay as you go and are great for seeing the whole island. There is a Fairmont which is pricey but great (the Hamilton Princess). Lovely location and has a mini bus to it’s beach about 15 minutes away. I’ve also stayed at the St Regis where we were treated really well, but it was not long open and low occupancy. It is in a very quiet part of the island though.

Less than a week is perfect. I think I was there 6 nights and it was loads of time. Saw a few museums, did some diving, checked out the ferry port, had a beach day etc
