I’m new to avios however have obtained 300k in points and would like to book 2 return tickets to either LAX or LAS in jan. Do first class seats ever come up on these routes ? I’ve checked on BA and it seams there are no F seats for the whole of 2023 on these routes , is this correct ?
Pre Covid LAX in First would be rare as it was one of the few routes BA could fill the cabin with paying punters. Now BA have significantly reduced the number of First seats it will be even trickier, especially for 2.
LAS traditionally had better availability but First redemptions are thin on the ground to everywhere at the moment.
In your favour, January is not a peak travel period for either. I’d take anything suitable in Business & keep checking/setup a Seat Spy search & you may find something pops up in F.
Aircraft changes are always a thing, but typically LAX will see more premium aircraft than LAS which is a bit of a party route, and not in a good way.
It’ll be hard for 1 seat let alone 2 in F to appear.
If you want F to California then perhaps add SFO into the mix. I think San Jose and San Diego also has F. Of course these may not have any availability either or suit your other plans but I think you should at least consider them if you are that desirous of F
Like @Thegasman says I’d book Club then try and upgrade but you need to consider if you’d be happy to split up so one of you is in club and the other F should only one F seat pop up.
There are plenty of F seats to be had to BOS, PHL and a couple of others in the USA. If what you want is the F experience, consider booking one of these and getting a connecting flight out west.
I’ve just redeemed my Barclaycard upgrade voucher for CW to LAS – I’m thinking that (hopefully) having access to the T3 lounges and Club Suite will make it pretty enjoyable!
*Also check that 300k avios will be enough for what you want to do – have you got a companion voucher to add? You’ll probably be ok if you go off-peak, which is generally after around Jan 10th.
BA use the A350 now to LAS so don’t even have a First cabin on the route. Same for San Diego which we flew with avios in F a few times over the years.
We got First to Dallas this year, seemed to be quite a lot of availability at the time. Spending a few days there then onwards to LAX.
