A bit of a random question, but flying this route in a couple of weeks and looking to see if anyone else has recently and can answer a couple of questions?

What is the scheduling like for the food service and sleep times etc. do they serve a light meal after take off and then lights out after a few hours? Bit of a strange one leaving at 9am, probably going to try and stay up most of the night before and hopefully get some sleep on route!

It’s lunch (main meal) after takeoff and breakfast before landing.

    Perfect cheers for that info

I think the return flight must be over 14 hours.
    Also a day flight.
Is there genuinely enough food provided?

Flyertalk usually has details of all this kind of stuff, they are hard core on that site 😂

Yeah, I much prefer late-night departures from Asia back to UK, but options are constrained if utilising 241 vouchers.

We did this return flight last summer and due to do it again in about 8 weeks’ time. Flight times usually range from 14-15 hr, I think.

No concerns on my end on food and certainly didn’t go hungry (think it was meal once in the air and then again a bit before landing), although admittedly not a huge eater/drinker on planes (but certainly don’t abstain and might have a Bloody Mary or two).

As we’re Glasgow based, we usually are on later LHR departure for outbound, so can’t comment on BA7. This year, we’re flying out to PVG first rather than HND.

You’ll probably be able to find a flight review on YouTube which may help you too, this goes for any flight really 🙂

Thanks everyone – returning via Qatar to Edinburgh as was worth the trade off using the 2-1 voucher but having a late night departure instead!

Minor bonus for BA, at the moment, and if it floats your boat, is that the direct BA flights are generally going eastbound from Japan, because of airspace issues, so you get to go round the world.

BA8 usually takes about 14 hours to return from HND, and in my experience of BA there will not be enough food. BA flights are organised around the staff, not the passengers. It doesn’t matter how long the flight is, the second meal is served about 90 minutes before landing, so the crew can rest as much as possible.

When I flew back from Osaka in 2019, I was hungry and had a headache before they eventually served the second meal. That was a day flight.

    Take plenty of snacks.

You might get a sandwich or some chocolates from the Club Kitchen if you are lucky.

BA used to fly to Osaka? As recently as that?

Yep. Well Kansai, not Itami. The route relaunched in April 2019, 4 times a week, and was axed early in the pandemic.

    Ah right. Didn’t know that.
I’m flying with Finnair next year. Hoping it’ll be better then BA.

I’m flying back from HND with Finnair in three weeks. I’ll let you know.

BA F out to SIN was very disappointing.

Looking forward to JAL to NRT this morning.

I flew BA6 in Feb and it took over 16 hours… For some reason I can’t recall, we were forced to fly through the Asia-Europe flight path. Good thing I was in CW!

Personally – I demolished all the snacks they provided, and I also asked for an extra main on both meals. From what I understand, extra food tends to get thrown out anyway…

Thanks everyone for the tips! Was more concerned LHR-HND as being a day flight. I’ll certainly grab a couple tubes of Pringles in LHR! Haha
Returning on Qatar overnight so less worried about this as hopefully I’ll be out cold sleeping for most of the 11 hours to Doha!
