I have a BA Holiday coming up, and the balance payment is due “by the 18th June”
I was planning on paying this today, but given the recent news regarding Tier points on the BA AMEX, it has given me pause.

    So my question is:
Does the “by the 18th June” mean by the beginning or end of 18th June?

If I can pay it on the 18th, then it can go towards the Tier point via the BA AMEX, if not then I may as well pay it today.

I’d interpret ‘by’ as ‘no later than’, i.e. before the 19th in this case.

    Pay on the 18th.

Definitely pay on the day stipulated at the latest. I was away recently when the final balance needed payment and couldn’t get on the website to pay. Holiday was cancelled following day. When I eventually got through they “repriced” the holiday and fortunately for me it was a few £s cheaper (probably as a sale had started).

Thank you for this, I have since had a text message from BA stating that it needs to be paid by 23:59 on the 18th, so you are indeed correct

Slightly off topic but I booked a BAH yesterday with the first element in January and the balance is due 8 weeks before travel – I’m sure in the past it was 5 weeks (apart from the temporary pandemic sweetener of 3 weeks)?

Usually 4 weeks before if short haul and 8 weeks if long haul.
(Or indeed my recent case 4 weeks before long haul as I had domestic with overnight layover and BA’s IT classed it as short haul! One IT gremlin I wasn’t complaining about)

That explains it. 3 x long haul and one short haul element included – maybe it goes in chronological order?

Yes, payment date governed by first flight destination (plus onward connection if same day, so in my case that was EDI-LHR only with long haul on subsequent day)

I have paid it as late as the very day displayed (so the 18th). I once had a BAH I didn’t want to take so I simply let the data lapse and they kept chasing me a week after (so it is not as if a machine goes and cancels it on the 18th at midnight).

How long ago are you talking about? My holiday was this year. I was travelling when payment was due (see above) and it had definitely been cancelled by the afternoon of the following day, which was when I had internet access.
