When upgrading to the £20 option, or dropping down to the free version, is your current balance carried over to the new card, as part of the annual total required? If so when….at the time of selecting the new card or on receipt of new card and activation ? Thanks.

It’s not carried over, but once you have earned the voucher on one card, you can still earn another on the new card if you hit the relevant threshold.
Thanks. When does the threshold start ticking…I assume on receipt of new card and activation ?

No, in this respect BC is like Amex in that the spending period starts on approval/despatch. You can’t delay the start of the period by not activating, nor are they too helpful if the card gets stuck in the post.

BC do card transfers on your statement date. So the new spending period starts as soon as your last statement is produced for your old card type.
You can still use your old card while you await your new one to arrive. So long as the statement was generated, your account should show as the new type online / in-app. Any spend on your old card while waiting for the new one to arrive at this time will count towards the new spending threshold.
Any spend after agreeing to swap but before your last statement is produced will only count towards the previous (which is actually current) cards spending threshold.
Thanks to both of you. Clarification may help one or two others on here….or maybe just me !

Do you happen to know know if you need to redeem the reward voucher over to your BA account before upgrading Barclaycard to premium or not?

Definitely. You either need the voucher or the 7k points in your BA account to do this safely, otherwise you risk losing them.

I figured that would probably be the case. I wanted to extend the validity as long as possible though.
