I am close to hitting my target of 5K spend to get the 60K Avios bonus however I have booked a refundable hotel that now I am likely going to cancel due to a cancelled trip. If the bonus was triggered once I hit the 5K spend and the hotel was refunded will Amex claw back the bonus in that case if the spend goes down to below 5K?

Based on others’ experiences, yes. However Avios get transferred into your BA account at the start of the month, and then Amex can’t claw them back. So if you can cancel after the SUB has been transferred across, you will be ok.
I hit the target, the SUB transferred to my avios account. I’ve had to do a refund that takes me around £300 below the SUB target, I note that when the refund hit my amex account it now says my avios total is -60K. I have a couple of transactions pending that’ll put my spend above the SUB target again, wondering will the -60K disappear ?
The refunded transaction was not the one that initially put me over the SUB target.
It depends – will those new transactions post before the final date to hit the SUB spend?
