…what with the 10K deadline approaching!!

    Anything speedier if it’s with, say…Amazon? Booking.com?!

    Cheers!

Amazon is usually pretty quick. Booking.com can depend on the property. Itunes purchases usually clear within 24 hours – I know they’re not usually big amounts but you could try gift cards?

How much do you need to spend?!

A physical shop at Tesco or Sainsburys should clear within 24 hours.

I have a pending Amazon transaction, the goods should be delivered tomorrow so that should work for me.

If not I may just top up my Octopus account. That clears quickly.

Sazbo’s is always one of the quickest posting ones for me.

I’ve a transaction with BA that I made on Tuesday which will take me over the target, however it is still showing as pending. If this transaction fails to clear today, will I miss out on hitting the target and have to hit 15k instead, even though the payment was made on 29th?

We don’t know for certain. When a transaction clears it usually shows as the date that you made the transaction. Until then it doesn’t get included in any balance other than to reduce your available credit. So I would hope it backdated but I fear that you may lose out.

Just hopping on this thread to see if anyone else is in the same boat. As have many I suspect, I had a few hundred to get away to hit my spend target of £10k by Nov 1st. Therefore, on October 31st (mid-afternoon) I put through some business expenses to get up to the target, these immediately reduced available spend but obviously take a while to be processed as AJA has mentioned above. The transactions are dated October 31st in the platform but processed date is Nov 1st. Has anyone that left it to the 11th hour to hit target been credited their companion vouchers yet?

The reason for asking is my year resets on November 17th so there’s little sense in trying to push to get another £5k away before then and so I’ll likely cut my losses. Spend tracker is now saying I’m £10.1k towards my £15k limit 🙁

Unless it’s buried somewhere in the T&Cs I feel like AMEX do need to make it a lot clearer about what the specifics are around how transactions in the final day(s) of the year are ultimately credited towards spend targets…

If a transaction is pending on the day a statement is produced is it included on the statement? No, it appears the next month.

If a transaction is pending on the day the annual spend counter resets is it included? No, to goes in to the following year.

If a transaction was pending on the day the spend threshold increased should anyone expect it to be retrospectively included in the lower limit?

@mrowe88 – I’m afraid this isn’t really a T&Cs issue. If you turn up for your train a few seconds before departure time, you might miss it. There are some things that don’t really need to be written down.

This gets flagged up regularly – if you want to be absolutely sure a transaction is going to clear by a certain date, you need to make it a good few days (excluding weekends) earlier.

If you read any Amex offer Ts and Cs, they explain precisely what happens if a merchant does not process a payment in time, that you might not qualify for an offer.

    This is no different.
