Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclaycard Avios plus

    hello all,

I am wondering if anyone has applied for the Barclaycard Avios plus and had the same problem/issue as me (see below)

I applied for the Barclaycard Avios plus a few weeks ago after reading info etc from this website about the 25,000 sign up Avios points. Well I got accepted for the card and supplied bank statements etc and my credit score is pretty good according to two seperate credit reference agencies but was only given a credit limit of £200 (absolute joke) which I am certain this was set to prevent getting the 25,000 Avios points if I spent £3,000 in the first three months. Plus when I do make purchases on the card it takes 2-3 days for the purchases to go from pending to complete and I cannot make additional payments until it has gone to complete.

I have requested a higher credit limit but apparently not succesful and I can try again in four months time
which is quite funny as this would be after the three months sign up offer.

would love to hear if anyone has also encountered this and can anyone recommend a different card to earn Avios points?

    regards
    Nigel

Quite a few people have reported this in the various threads since the launch of the card. Your only other option really is one of the BA Amexes, if you don’t already have one.

Whilst the whole process of opening a Premier Account was fraught and involved 3 trips to my ‘now not so local’ Barclays Bank, initially being told having converted a cashback Braclaycard to Barclaycard Avios plus that I wasn’t eligible for a Premier account, with the explanation that the reason was ‘probably my credit score’ – mathematically impossible to improve it!! – and ending up with 2 customer profiles that had to be merged, etc. etc. I was awarded a similar credit limit to yourself on the Premier A/C; my Barclaycard Avios plus limit on the other hand is £11k. So a joke limit isn’t automatic.
I believe it is possible to pay money from the Premier account into the Barclaycard account as often as you wish – is this a way around the problem?

Sounds ridiculous. I’d cancel and ask for a full refund for mis-selling a product

The £200 limit is normally the initial limit given when they await further proof of your income E.g. if you are self employed you need to provide further docs after applying.
