Good afternoon – looking for some help from this wonderful forum. Can anybody tell me the history of the offers provided by Barclaycard Avios plus please? Looking for the dates said offers were applicable and the welcome bonuses if criteria was Met
I am aware that in February 2022 was when the Avios Credit card were launched by Barclaycard- many thanks in advance
Juice@Juicebuster – the general view is that Barclays won’t offer any enhanced SUBs beyond the standard 25k Avios for £3k spend within three months as previous higher offers have attracted the wrong sort of customer.
@JDB Thank you so much for the prompt response.
So the 1st offer in Feb 2022 – would that have had a sign up by or end date? Is there any way to find this out ?
I think the launch offer was 25,000 Avios. It went up to 50,000 in the summer and there was also in October that year the 100,000 combined Avios Plus/Premier account offer. There was, I think another 50k offer on Avios Plus but that hasn’t reappeared in a long time.
Was complicated. For those who remember, the opening deal in 3/22 was 25k. The demand from HfP readers was so great that we crashed the application website and it didn’t recover for three days. Barclays then gave us an exclusive 30k offer which ran from mid March to 4 April.
There was a 50k at some point later but that’s never coming back. Barclays has realised it doesn’t work in terms of getting long term cardholders.
@Rob, do you have any insights on how Barclaycard view the recent changes to the BA Amex cards? Surely, now would be a good time to try to attract those customers that are cancelling because they can’t hit £15k on Amex.
And, any chance they decide to enhance the upgrade voucher? The only change I can think of, since launch, is being able to choose 7k avios instead. The BAPP has had many positive changes in the last couple years (save for the £50 increase and £15k spend requirement now).
Not being able to start a journey outside the UK is such a major limitation of the voucher, and it would make the voucher so much easier to use, although, having said that, they are probably very happy for people to choose 7k avios!
Not that I would use it for short haul, but the recent increase to £12.50 for the cash element on CE, makes the voucher even worse for short haul.

Thx Rob that was really helpful. Any dea when the next offer Barclaycard off was – Start and end date please? Not to concerned about the Avios welcome bonus amount

Well, it’s now…25k, the normal offer. I’m not sure what else you expect, 25k, when Rob has confirmed 50k (and hence higher, by default) are never coming back, is about as good as it gets.
What Barclays did for the first 18 months was just market testing.
What they learned (and they told me this, its not supposition) was that the more generous the bonus, the most useless the customers it brought in – paraphrasing obviously.
All you will see in the future are tiny nudges to get anyone currently on the fence to commit, eg the recent 10k deal on the free card.
I can’t see the paid card going above 25k unless they move to an annual fee and make it non-refundable. In that situation they could run to 50k again because they have £240 to play with.
Didn’t realise I was ‘most useless ‘to Barclaycard….nice.

If you still have the card, you’re not. If you don’t, you are.
Not sure what you’re business is, but if you offered a £500 incentive to someone to sign up for your product or service and then cancelled after a month having paid you £20, you would probably have stronger words than that.

Thanks for all the feedback. It might be prudent to explain why I have asked this precise question. I am currently in dispute with Barclaycard from 2022 where they claim my application for Barclaycard avois credit card was made outside the offer window. Hence I have been trying to find the offer dates in 2022……
@juicebuster – are you not able to find this out using the Wayback machine? Are you are able to evidence precisely when you applied if it was a close run thing – eg late on the last day or similar? If you had asked the question as now framed on 1 Nov, you would have had your answer by now!

@JDB You are spot on with the ‘If you had asked the question as now framed on 1 Nov, you would have had your answer by now!’ statement…Not sure why i wasn’t so direct with what I was after. So Wayback Machine. Never used it before but found this from Barclays archive re the offer…..It doesn’t mention any SIGN UP by dates and I signed up late MAY early Jun 22 time….so thank you

@ROB Thank you 🙂 Great find to support my 2year + ongoing compliant. Will let you know what they come back with ( its at the ombudsman stage now)Morning @rROB . I finally got confirmation that the Ombudsman on reviewing the case has agreed with me so I will be getting the 25K Avios from Barclaycard. I would like to thank everyone who supports this site. My win is a great example of where the BIG BOYS of the financial institutions bully and lie to their customers. Its taken 30 months to resolve, involving 2 Ombudsman complaints and numerous hours of my time to get to this point. In the end it wasn’t the points i was interested in (yes it helps) it was more about the principle of – I was 100% sure I was eligible for the welcome offer but was being brushed off with tampered audio calls and moving of goal posts. Barclays even at the last hour tried to deny to the ombudsman the offer that @ROB supplied me didn’t apply during the eligible period I applied for the credit card. Absolutely Ridiculous –
I would like to make my case more public. I feel the brand profile of Barclays and Barclaycard should be allowed to be given some serious public exanimation by publicising their failures in a qualified way – so if there is anyone who could advise please could you contact me directly . Once again thank you Head for points 🙂Morning @rROB . I finally got confirmation that the Ombudsman on reviewing the case has agreed with me so I will be getting the 25K Avios from Barclaycard. @ROB Thank you 🙂 Great find to support my 2year + ongoing compliant. Will let you know what they come back with ( its at the ombudsman stage now)@Juicebuster – well done on persevering and winning your case. Your case will be publicised to the extent that your decision will be published on the FOS website a few weeks after you formally accept the decision. In terms of further publicity, if you look at the types of complaints reported in newspaper columns, I’m afraid this isn’t that serious or significant in financial terms. They are also not that interested in resolved cases.
If you are alleging that Barclays tampered with evidence, you should report that to the Financial Conduct Authority.
I think all that you experienced is a function of corporate and/or personal incompetence as well as blind faith in ‘systems’ rather than any malice or deliberate attempt to deprive you of your welcome bonus.
I fear that you have probably suffered in that your genuine grievance has been lost in the larger number of dodgy claims being experienced by Barclays and Amex.
