Barclaycard Mastercard Avios vs Avios Plus

Hi fellow travellers,

Following your advice, I have the Barclaycard Avios Plus and I already have reached the sign up reward (only 25000 nowadays:( ). I’d like to keep this card as a back up to my BA Amex but I want the free version. Do you know if there’s a minimum period before you can swap to the free one?

I contacted Barclays for clarification but they are giving me different info every time 😅

Check your app. If it allows you to choose the free card, you can do it rightaway.

You should be able to downgrade to the free version in the app, there’s not a minimum period.

In the App, go to Your Cards > Select your Barclaycard Avios Plus > Change to a different card. If it says there’s no options available, or the free card isn’t listed, try again at a different time in the day. I found the app to be quite flakey and take several attempts to change to the free card.
