Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclays App / Online Banking Unusable?

  • 71 posts

Anyone else find the Barclays app and online banking so slow that it is basically unusable? In addition both frequently throw error mesages or please try again later messages.

In the past I’ve used Santander and Halifax and I don’t think I ever ever saw an error message or experienced slow service over the last 15 years.

Recently opened a Chase account, the Chase IT seems flawless too.

Not really finding any issues with the app to be fair.
There were delays to the trackers updating, but I don’t class that as an app performance issue.

I find both App and software a bit rubbish and a wee bit slow but perfectly functional.

Not slick but it works fine

Every time I open the app, I get error 00002

I close and reopen, and it works fine with fingerprint sign in.

But my app doesn’t have any Avios tracker and Barclaycard customer service haven’t a clue why!

I get exactly the same thing. Having spent 2 hours on the phone to Barclays, they say they’re working on it. Perhaps I’m used to Amex’s customer service but things with Barclaycard are pretty awful.

It seems that generally the app works fine for most people and is no better or worse than comparable ones such as Amex or HSBC WE. Unfortunately, it sounds as though you are both suffering some very specific issues relating to your accounts which is why they are struggling to resolve them.

On the + side, BC shows details of pending transactions and Avios awarded per transactions. Amex offers both, WE offers neither.

On the – side BC doesn’t provide individual transaction notifications which are a useful fraud protection measure. WE and Amex provide these.

I can’t see Avios at all. Website doesn’t show and can’t use the app?

Way worse than Amex, in my experience. In all the time I’ve had Amex, the website and app have always been responsive and Amex has never ever thrown an error. I’ve had 100+ errors in the short few months I’ve been a Barclays customer. Based on the amount of complaints on this forum and others I get the impression Barclays IT is generally much worse than other banks.

If you look at the number of BC complaints, they aren’t that numerous (and a great many are repeat posts) – it’s really that it’s a new product and the happy customers mainly don’t feel the need to say that things are operating as expected. It was the same with people making a fuss about being rejected for a card – it sounded a lot, but in reality it wasn’t very many and the stats have confirmed. The number of ‘errors’ you report is extraordinary and I don’t think anyone else has claimed anything vaguely approaching this + the IT complaints seem to have died down a bit.

Re Amex IT, there are far more complaints on here re offers not posting vs general BC complaints…

I may be in the minority, but the barclays app has been the best part of being with barclays. It used to be head and shoulders above other banking apps (pretty sure they were the first to introduce cheque scanning, for example) but now I’d say it’s just good enough.

You can see your Premier avios accumulation fine. Everything else just works. I can’t recall when I last logged in via the desktop.
