Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclays Avios Upgrade Voucher – issue date? 24 months validity

    Hi all,

Was a little confused with regards to how and when the upgrade voucher gets issued. Basically I am close to my 10,000 spend therefore, have been refraining from using the card as I did not want the voucher to get issued so soon – as I wanted the 24months validity to kick-in in a few months (As with BA AMEX Prem Plus, voucher is issued within a couple of days hitting spend).

But after reading the terms and conditions, this has led me to believe that maybe the voucher only gets issued once you accept it as opposed once you hit the spend. Not sure if this is true, but was hoping folks on here who have had vouchers may be able to assist?

Clause 8.4: Seems to imply that the upgrade voucher will be issued only once you confirm you’d like it straight away, or at the end of you 12month anniversary. i.e. apparently, it sits in your app / on an email and the issue date will only start once you accept the voucher. Do you know if this correct?

And does the 24months expiration start from when it becomes a voucher, i.e. when you accept it in the app/email…or is the 24months from when you hit the 10,000 spend?

…..Where you have a choice of reward and you have made your selection in the Barclaycard or Barclays App,
a cabin upgrade voucher will be added to your BAEC account within five working days, or Avios within 25
    working days (as applicable), of:
           •     you confirming you’d like your reward straight away; or
    • the end of the relevant 12-month period

    Thanks,

As I commented in another thread just now:

“The voucher does not trigger automatically. Once you hit your 10k spend target the option becomes available in the app to choose 7k avios or the upgrade voucher. You can choose which one you want (and change that choice repeatedly) up until your normal card anniversary date. You then have to press redeem to actually trigger your choice. I hit my spend target last month but my card anniversary date is October – the app says I can change my choice up until then. I assume the two year expiry will be from the day I press redeem but haven’t done this yet so can’t confirm that.”

Thanks for your comments, your assumption appears to make sense, but it will be interesting if someone can confirm the 24months expiry is indeed from the day you press redeem an NOT from the day the spend was hit.

That’s handy. I don’t remember been given a choice on when to trigger the voucher issue. It just landed in my BAEC account.
    Is this fairly new thing?

It appears to be fairly new, possibly at the time when Barlcays gave card holders the option to receice 7,000 Avios or the upgrade voucher.

We are trying to establish for certain id 24months begins when you accept the voucher as opposed to hitting the spend…

I thought i read somewhere that you needed to keep the card open/active to redeem the voucher?

Not at all, I’ve earned 2 Barclaycard vouchers, and downgraded the card after. I even paid for the flights when redeeming using my BAPP rather than the BC.

You may be thinking of the BAPP, which did stipulate in the t’s & c’s that you must pay the taxes using the card, although it was never enforced. Now, it just says you must use an Amex.

If not specified, YOUR 24M START when you click redeem on voucher not when triggered.
