I got the barclays avios credit card and got plenty of miles. I’m going to Auz next year in December and wanted to upgrade my flight. I’ve got enough miles for it. But it turns out barclays auto enrolled me for the miles instead of voucher. Apparently I was asked, but in reality I haven’t been.
The difference in voucher and miles is significant for the upgrade. So two questions from me:
1. Did you get asked which one you wanted? I don’t remember being asked.
2. Anyone else been in the same situation? What was the result.

I didn’t choose, I was just told….do nothing and you’ll get the voucher, which I did.
When did you trigger the voucher? When it changed to voucher v 7k avios everyone got the option in their account to choose their preferred option by the anniversary date. As @Mikeact says, if you don’t actively choose, you then get the voucher, at the anniversary. Who told you you were auto enrolled – I don’t think there is such a thing – unless you applied for the card since it changed and you were asked at the application stage?
I triggered the voucher in September, but got the card in May. I don’t remember opting in for the miles at that time. I was told by barclays re auto enrolment to miles.
So did the 7k avios just appear in your account without you doing anything then?
I think there might have been an article here or at least a forum thread when the changes came in, I don’t recall if there was any mention of auto enrollment for new customers then.
Was the plan to bag an award seat to SYD using the voucher at T-355?

Yep. My partner got one on the way out last night but I only got PE.
I triggered my bonus 3 days ago, here is what happened:
– Received an email saying that I was eligible for the bonus, and asking my to log in to the app to choose one of the two options
– The email mentioned that if I didn’t choose until day X, they would automatically select the upgrade voucher.
– When I logged on to the app I then selected my preferred choice.
Is this your first time receiving the bonus? From what I can see it leaves the option you chose for the first time selected, until you change before the next account anniversary.

I got my voucher a few months ago. Previously I had opted in for the voucher in my (ios) app. If you didn’t see that option in the app, perhaps just make sure that the app is up to date with the latest version.
