Barclays Home Insurance Exit Avios

Hi.

In addition to a Premier Bank Account I also have/had building and contents insurance from Barclays. Got a letter last month telling me they were exiting the insurance market and I was being transferred to Aviva. That was seamless, but got this text from Barclays today:

We’ve sent you the remaining Avios for your home insurance reward up to the end of your current policy. We’ve added it straight to your British Airways Executive Club account so you won’t see the amount of Avios rewards change in the Barclays app. Your Barclays team

Didn’t know I even earned Avios on it. Nothing credited yet: any ideas what I’ll get?

As a Barclays Premier Avios rewards customer (1500 Avios per month), you would earn bonus Avios if you had a mortgage (+700 Avios per month), and/or Home insurance (+150 Avios pm, a bonus for each additional product), however the bonus for Home insurance was always timed to “first year only” or something to that extent, so if you already got it paid for a year, that is good enough. I think you can now earn the same bonus 150 Avios with a Life insurance.

PS: it was paid as part of your monthly Avios payment from Barclays, not as an additional payment, so you should see your Avios monthly payment being lower going forward (from 1650pm back to 1500 Avios)

I used to get 75 Avios a month for my home insurance, so a total of 1,575 landed in one hit from Barclays each month.

As it happened my policy expired in July shortly after receiving the same letter as you, and I’ve renewed elsewhere. Haven’t received a text or any “exit” Avios.

You may only have received 75 Avios (instead of 150) because the insurance was in joint names and/or another player was also claiming the bonus for Avios or Blue rewards. The same would be for the mortgage.
