So I have a Barclays premier account and have had for over a year now , terms say you have to earn 75k and pay xxx in a month . I earn 50k and have never had any letters / emails saying I don’t hit the terms to have the account
Anyway interesting in getting the premier account with NatWest , there terms state you have to earn 100k or have xxxxx well I don’t earn 100k or have xxxx are they as strict as Barclays does anyone know with regards to if you do have the correct income going through account , your account will be downgraded etc
Super strict on application. They check payslips apparently unless there’s a history of eligible salary payments going in to the account already.
Never heard of anybody being downgraded tho.
Unlike Barclays Premier you actually get substantial additional benefits.
Would suggest opening a normal reward account first and then upgrading in the future. Will be a much more seamless experience… and yes as mentioned the NatWest premier account is far superior to the Barclays one

Quite right on all points. But I would say if you income in another form that would not normally go into your bank account (e.g. shares, bonus paid into pension), you should tell your relationship manager and they should be able to override and automatic decision making algorithms.
I switched from Barclays Premier to NatWest and it worked a treat.

This is sound advice. I did this as well and managed to get upgraded to Premier a week after I scooped up the switching bonus.

Isn’t NatWest Premier only superior if you pay £31/month? Barclays Premier only costs a net £7 and you don’t need to pay that if you don’t want Avios. The accounts may have the same ‘Premier’ moniker but don’t pretend to do the same things or have the same price tag so any comparison makes little sense and even less just looking just at those two banks –
in the wider market, HSBC Premier gives you a good family travel insurance for nothing and Nationwide gives you family travel cover, AA cover and a few other bits and pieces for only £13/month and there’s no income requirement plus you can buy out existing health conditions or the age limit. Other banks probably have some good deals.

No. Natwest Premier Reward has the same £2 fee as its non-Premier sibling but gives back £10 in Rewards rather than £5.
It depends which account is being referred to. There are 3 different NatWest Premier accounts at £0, £2 and £31 per month. I have the free NatWest Premier account, it doesn’t have any additional benefits apart from no non-sterling transaction fees. I was switched onto this account automatically a couple of years ago, probably due to having a high savings balance with NatWest at that time. I’m currently well below the requirements though.

Exactly this, and you can convert the rewards earnt into avios at 0.86p each, which I believe is accepted as pretty much the best price you can buy avios at. To answer the other point, the HSBC premier is also a good account for the free travel insurance as mentioned, I have both hsbc and NatWest and no trouble with either
I’ve also banked with NatWest for over 30 years and have always found them helpful when needed and despite having opened up virtually every current account going for the switching bonuses, would never switch my main account from natwest
