Forums Other Destination advice Best airline from Vancouver

  • 260 posts

    Hi all

I need to fly my boss from Vancouver to either London or Frankfurt, so options are BA/Air Canada/Lufthansa – don’t think there’s any other airline operating the route?

No first class cabin available on those carriers, so the question is – what’s the best airline for flat bed, service, facilities etc?

    Thank you!

Air Canada will guarantee you aisle seat access with no one climbing over you. You should get that on BA as well, but there could be an equipment swap. On Lufthansa you won’t.

If you end up booking to Frankfurt, make sure you get the flight that’s operated by Air Canada, not a Lufthansa code share.

And Air Canada probably win out when it comes to lounge access. Definitely better at Heathrow if it’s a round trip.

Have not flew AC for about two decades and cannot say I’ve missed them, never anything to write home about IME.

Is this a new role for you?

If booking for my bosses I’d be looking for the best fit for their family commitments, points preferences and their work itinerary in that order.

Alaskan from YVR would let you connect with one of AA’s very nice planes for Business Class – someone here will know which plane type is it the AA 777? – on the West Coast for a considerably nicer Transatlantic cabin. Book it as AA – Alaskan codeshares with everyone.

Downside obvs the need to connect but Alaskan First (their Business) is very nice and if boss collects AA or BA points/miles, unlike AC or LH which are Star Alliance, can collect on AA or BA (OneWorld).

Unless a US/Canadian citizen (or maybe global entry holder), I would never choose to connect through the US unnecessarily. Though it shouldn’t be too difficult as there is preclearance.

Bear in mind the 90 day limit for ESTA holders includes time spent in Canada if you go there from the US

For the original question I’d agree with @The real Swiss Tony although I have had poor experiences with AC onboard service

Air Canada would be the best choice no question.

As other’s have said, you’ll be guaranteed aisle access in Signature Class. Also in YVR you get access to the Signature Suite with sit down dining. On the way back from LHR, you’d get access to the United Club in T2 which is quite nice as well.
