Hi, Now that I’ve hit my companion voucher spend I’m thinking of getting rid of my BA Amex Premium Plus and getting an Amex PLATINUM card. Any recommendations of the best way to do this? Not sure whether to get my wife to refer me (although she only has a basic blue BA Amex so the referral bonus is low – 4000 for her 6000 for me. Or, go the Cashback route. I’ve noticed currently you can get £100 Topcashback if you apply for this card. Does anyone know if this is only available to brand new Amex Customers or if existing customers can get his cashback too? Thanks.
I see TCP as offering only £50 for the Platinum card but maybe you have a different offer. Assuming it tracks correctly (always a risk, never guaranteed) then whatever cash back is on offer can be considered the amount you’re “paying” for whatever additional bonus MR points you get by going down the referral route.
Sounds like if your wife refers you then you get a total of 10,000 additional points (4k Avios + 6k MR), so you’d be “paying” about 0.5p per point – pretty reasonable!
Even then, though, getting a referral from someone else gives you 100,000 MR points, or 20,000 more than the current normal rate, so that still seems like the better option rather than being referred by your wife.

Is this what I get – 20,000 extra MR, if I get a Platinum card member to refer me?

Yes, the current rate is 80,000 MR points when applying online directly but the referral offer gives 100,000 MR points = 20,000 extra.
While I’d be happy to refer you, I believe the standing etiquette is to let @Rob do the referrals as a way of paying for our membership to the site. Perhaps he or @Rhys can arrange a link for you if you want to go that route!
You don’t have to be referred from a Platinum holder to get the enhanced Platinum referral. A referral from any card holder will be fine. The default referral link takes you to the card that holder has, but simply click all cards to see the enhanced referred bonus.

This include ba Amex cards?
Yes.
But for BA cards there is often a better offer through your BA account.
Did I understand corectly, if I cancel my Gold (opened in December for 35k points) and apply to the Platinum through a referal I can qualify for 100k points?

If you mean Business Gold / Business Platinum, yes. If you mean personal, no.

What through the chat??? Sorry, I’m eager to take advantage of the offer, just not sure on the best routes
No. You’ll have an offer on your BA account.
I don’t think that right now it is higher than what is in offer via a referral link.

Oh I see. Thanks friend
Currently, I just cancelled my ba blue card and became a supplementary card under my wife’s bapp card… I guess this means she could refer me via her bapp account and our family avios account gets both a referral and a new person join up bonus

Thank you Rob. So in my case, as I already have the personal Gold, the upgrade offer of 75000 points is the best offer to get to Platinum.
