I’m single and £307 away from 10k spend.
90 tier points. Never had status. Only flown Club Europe once. Never world.
Tier point year ends November.
Any suggestions for getting the best value?
I’d be interested in MEX, DUB and possibly some US destinations. But open to ideas…
I think going to somewhere you’d enjoy is possibly better than seeking ‘best value’.
For instance, somewhere in South America would be good value based on number of Avios required for the distance flown, but I (currently) have no interest in visiting that part of the world so ‘best value’ doesn’t work for me.
If you are interested in MEX, you could fly from MAD to MEX in business with IB for 42.5k avios with the 241. Quite a deal for 24h in business class. Taxes around £200, although obviously you need to add the flight to MAD plus (recommended) a night before and after the flight in MAD. There is usually lot of availability in that route and IB usually operates 3 flights a day.

Great reminder. Thank you.

That’s an interesting suggestion. WAY better deal than BA from LHR you think?
Check out Matt’s Planet recent youtube video. Flew Madrid out to Mexico/Bogata on Iberia and then flew First back on BA to London using the 241 https://youtu.be/TM-9OOqETVI?feature=shared

As today’s article shows, getting to Latin America on Iberia gets far better use of Avios / lower fees:

Reminder you need to factor in a positioning flight to/from Madrid, but if you have the time it’s a decent saving.
MEX is a great suggestion, plenty to do for a solo traveller. I’d add that Costa Rica (SJO) is also fantastic (and available for relative cheap via MAD). With sufficient time you can do both, and returning from either direct to London is possible.
Don’t worry about tier points/status — unless you find yourself frequently flying in economy, it’s of little benefit.
