i am VS silver and currently have flights booked – 27k miles return in premium and used voucher for a companion.
i have 15k miles in my account.

I have looked again the outgoing flight is 7.5k in economy and 74k in upper
the return is 13.5k in premium

is my understanding correct that i can ring up and can change it to
7.5k each in economy upgrade both to upper using the voucher(pay the extra tax also)
and 13.5k each in premium for the return
i am so confused by the usage of it
i am a bit hard of hearing so phone calls can be difficult especially if i am unsure of the rules

Well first of all if your companion also has a VFC account you can nominate them so they could call and do this for you if their hearing is better.

But I’m slightly confused here – have you used you only voucher for the companion ticket? Are you considering cancelling this booking? Bear in mind this will cost you £70 pp now.

From what I’ve gathered recently, some agents will allow you to upgrade by 2 classes, but some won’t. Your safest bet might be to re-book 2 seats in PE then call and ask for your voucher to be applied to upgrade to UC – as you’re Silver it should cover the difference.

However, you’ll only be able to upgrade both of you one-way, so you may need more points to then cover the return leg, and prices may have gone up in the meantime!

Hope this covers what you’re asking.

unfortunately my other half has even less of a clue than me
yes we used the voucher it was 13.5k each way in premium(27k and voucher used )

the problem is like you say no time to think about it points move fast!!

Have you looked at whether the taxes have gone down at all? If so it would offset the cost of cancelling somewhat.

This is an excellent example of why the Virgin voucher is so difficult to use compared to, say, the BA one which can be used online. I wonder if your partner called Virgin and explained that you have difficulty hearing, would they have some sort of amplifying system or other way to support you?

From what you’ve written, you have 42k usable points if you cancel your current booking? You’d need to be able to cover the full journey in PE or economy if you’re then going to apply the voucher to upgrade you both on one of the legs.

It is explicit in the upgrade rules here that you can upgrade by two categories, unless you are in Economy Light – https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/upgrades-and-extras/upgrade-cabin-seat/bid-for-an-upgrade/fixed-priced-upgrades-terms-and-conditions.html

I’d forgotten about that! I know there were a few issues with agents not knowing how things work under the new system.

OP needs to speak with Virgin anyway!
