Best way to get 40 tier points before next March?
After our first business class flight, we’re on 560 points … just 40 points off silver 😕
We may get a long haul flight in January, but it’s a big “may”
Would like to get the silver for the next flights, so is there someway to get the remaining 40 points ?
One CE flight anywhere, even within the UK, would get minimum 40 TPs. Definitely worth going for – use the BA Lowest Fare Finder tool on ba.com.
And don’t forget you only need one of you to be Silver to get free selection and lounge access for both of you.
BSL and LUX sometimes have cheap CE fares from LHR.
You have the 4 BA flights? I guess if you fly one long haul a year you may benefit from seat selection fees with the status. As more of BAs fleet switches to CS does that matter, they’re not really pairs, and the seats don’t have enough differential to care about selection the way it mattered with CW.
A return short haul flight to anywhere is Europe with one leg in economy and the other in business is the easiest way. Cheapest have a look on google flights.
Cheapest but riskier buy an economy return flight somewhere in Europe and hope you get a cheap upgrade offer.
most expensive option Skip silver and book a 5 night long haul BA holiday in business/first with a domestic connection and go for gold
Which route and airline did you fly to get the 560TP? I’m guessing it was Qatar Airways via DOH to the far east in which case unless two of the sectors were on a BA flight number or on BA metal you still need 4 eligible flights, which is what @dougzz99 was asking, so a one way flight in CE won’t work. If that is the case then I’d suggest 2 shorthaul return flights in economy (4 flights in total) earning 10TP each way.
Edit just read your other thread. Appears you’ve flown to Toronto so have already done the 4 eligible flights on BA in which case do as @NL says a one way shorthaul flight in CE to get 40TP and use Avios to get a flight back or the cheapest economy back.
If you can get a reasonably priced domestic CE flight (not always easy), you could just hop on the train to get home if that was easier/cheaper than paying cash or avios for a 2nd flight (again, not a given!)

I couldn’t see how you’d get 560 from a Toronto return, unless it was double TP BA holiday, in which case you only have 2 qualifying flights. I was also trying to hint at the need for status when you have no flying in the best part of 9 months. If you book BA Clubworld flights what does status bring except seat selection? CS make seat selection a much less valuable proposition than it was with CW.
Seat selection is importantly to some people and if Steve is going to do more flying in 2025 it would pay to get silver before 31/3/25 to have it until 2026.
If he left it to get silver until the 25/26 year he’d have a number of flights without the benefit.
Personally with 9 months to collect the TPs/Qualifying flights for his 24/25 year I would try and do it organically via say a weekend trip to a Christmas market or some winter Sun rather than a forced set of flights to a back to back destination with no other utility than to get the points.
Thanks to everyone … Much appreciated 👍
The whole playing the tiers, Avios, etc. “game” is a wee bit complicated 🤔
There’s a bit of a learning curve, but you’ll get there.
