Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Best way to use Barclaycard Upgrade voucher to get to Singapore

  • 4 posts

    Hi all,

Apologies if this question is a bit simple but I’m relatively new to collecting points.

I have a Barclaycard upgrade voucher and enough avios to get to Singapore however, availability doesn’t look good. I currently have a subscription for Seatspy to try and get 2 Business Class seats for any off-peak time beyond August this year.

Is this the best way to try and secure seats? Is there a different method or any tips?
    Thanks!

Yes, book at midnight 355 days before the flight. Otherwise you’ll be incredibly lucky to find any Club World redemption seats on that route – unless either someone cancels and the seats are released back into the pool or you get lucky with last-minute availability.

If you’re looking to book a return you’d also have to call to add the return flight when it is released, or to have them refund the Avios difference between WT+ and CW after booking a separate return flight using the same cash and Avios option (if that is possible).

I’ve personally never done that with a Barclays upgrade voucher and I don’t now exactly what they will allow with the upgrade voucher as opposed to an Amex 2for1 so I’d get advise from someone who has, or call to check before-hand.

You can book an outbound one-way for two using a single voucher, and potentially look at Qatar for the return (which may work out cheaper if you only have one voucher).

Actually, if you only have one voucher there’s no point in trying to add the return at all. Even if you want to return on a BA redemption booking, you might as well book it separately. If you had two vouchers to use, that wouldn’t work as they can only be used on bookings that start in the UK. Sounds like that’s not the case though….

On this topic. My wife and I both have upgrade vouchers. I’d anticipated that we could use 1 for outbound and 1 for the return. But if flights have to depart the UK then clearly I can’t do this.
It seems the only option is to book individually and both use our vouchers to reduce the avios required. That’s a bit of a faf. But,
    Am I correct?

Yes, unfortunately, and with the popularity of SIN, it’s going to be very difficult to get 2 CW seats at the same time while making separate bookings. Is there a Plan B to use the 2nd voucher if you use the 1st one to book both of you outbound?

No plans to use the 2nd upgrade voucher yet, but if 2 seats are showing as available tnen then it should be fairly straightforward to book them individually. Fingers crossed.

@Ian M – are you taking about SIN, I just assumed so as this is what the post is about?!
